2015 BMW 3.0 CSL at Villa d’Este 2015

Every year for almost the past 100 years, owners of luxurious vehicles gather at Villa d’Este–a luxury hotel in Cernobbio, Italy–to participate in a special competition: it’s not a performance or racing competition, but rather one based on pure elegance.

For the past decade, BMW has organized the event and typically debuts new concept models, like the Zagato Coupe, Pininfarina Gran Lusso V12 super-coupe, 328 Roadster, and M1 Hommage. This year, BMW actually promised to show “two sensational exhibits from the field of concept vehicles,” one of them being the 2015 3.0 CSL Hommage concept.

Two Concept Models at Villa d’Este 2015 Include 3.0 CSL Hommage

Last week, BMW teased us with a glimpse of the 2015 3.0 CSL Hommage concept (the artwork above), and the first thing everyone noticed about it was, as Coldplay said, “It was all yellow”–with a tint of lime green, it appears. The Hommage is meant to be the brand’s Design Team’s tribute to the classic CSL BMW Coupe from the 1970s, but with better performance and engineering this time. It’s lightweight, built of durable materials, and still sophisticated.

When describing it, BMW stated, “The design of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage exudes sheer dynamics, with the body framed by striking air deflectors, powerful wheel arches and a prominent roof and rear spoiler. The stretched flanks serve as an elegant counterpoint to the distinctly sporty front and rear end.”

The huge spoiler, wheel arches, and air deflectors are certainly appealing–even more so in person–though we’re not use what’s under the hood. Suffice it to say, we’re excited to see the entire vehicle.

This year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este theme is “Seventies Style – The Jet Set is back.” It runs from today, May 22nd, until May 24th. Stay tuned for more specs and what BMW’s second concept car being shown at Villa d’Este 2015 is.
