Though most children finalize their costumes in the days before Halloween, one of them decided to pull out his costume a bit early. Maine fourth-grader Jake Arsenault wore a hot dog costume for school pictures. What he got was a unique school ID picture and a personal visit from the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile

The story behind the picture

Arsenault wore the frankfurter outfit because his parents dared him to do it, as his dad, Craig Arsenault, relates. “He was wondering what he should wear for school picture day when my wife jokingly suggested the hot dog costume.”

When his parents got the school ID picture back, Craig posted it on Facebook with the caption “The school let him do it, and I couldn’t be happier.”

The Wienermobile visit

Besides going viral on the internet, Arsenault’s picture caught the attention of Oscar Mayer Wiener. Earlier this week, the company sent one of their Wienermobiles to his school to commend him for his creative costume choice.

Per 7 News Boston, the Wienermobile staff gave Arsenault an “honorary Hotdogger Dujour” certificate and the nickname “Jumbo Frank Jake.” They also took him and his friends for a ride in the hot dog-shaped vehicle and went to the movies. Unsurprisingly, Arsenault and his buds all dressed up like wieners for the occasion.

Judging from the huge smile on Jake’s face in his picture with the Wienermobile, it’s clear that the unexpected visit made his day. And, to those of us who are still fumbling to put together a last-minute Halloween costume, it presents a random spark of inspiration.
