According to Cadillac boss Steve Carlisle, there are more V-series performance models on the horizon. After all, the automaker needs to find ways to apply its Blackwing 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.

Keeping his options open
Carlisle hasn’t committed to anything concrete. Rumors have been swirling that Cadillac intends to apply the Blackwing name to future high-performance vehicles — possibly even an SUV.
When asked about the possibility of a performance-oriented SUV, Carlisle responded, “Why not?” However, he admitted that SUVs couldn’t replace true sports sedans. “You’re dealing with higher centers of gravity, weight distributions, everything like that,” he explained.
That said, it’s been rumored that the 2021 Escalade will have a 650-horsepower Camaro engine. It could gain the Blackwing dynamo as another option. Currently, is mill has two power output levels: 500 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, or a spicier 550 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. No matter which options Cadillac makes available, it’ll be a significant step up from the Escalade’s current range-topping 420-horsepower engine.
Blackwing engines — exclusive or not?
The automaker has high hopes for its Blackwing engine and line of performance vehicles — however, Carlisle hasn’t quite nailed down a naming scheme yet.
“You can literally equate it with the engine, or you can equate it with the concept high-performance track-capable,” Carlisle said of the new moniker.
Although Cadillac intends to keep the Blackwing engine exclusive to its brand, the C8 Corvette might offer a Blackwing-inspired engine. That way, Cadillac can keep its brand exclusive, while offering the Corvette some of its cutting-edge engine technology.
