Yesterday, General Motors CEO, Mary Barra, addressed the 21st annual Congress of the Intelligent Transport Society at the Intelligent Transport System World Congress held in Detroit. Among her key statements, Barra promised that Cadillac would be offering intelligent and connected vehicle technologies on 2017 models. These “intelligent and connected” technologies will equate to a reduced number of automobile accidents, saving lives and money.

“A tide of innovation has invigorated the global auto industry, and we are taking these giant leaps forward to remain a leader of new technology,” Barra remarked. “We are not doing this for the sake of the technology itself. We’re doing it because it’s what customers around the world want. Through technology and innovation, we will make driving safer.”

Safety First: Cadillac Leads the Way in Crash Avoidance Technology

The first of the intelligent and connected vehicle technologies to look out for is Super Cruise. Among Super Cruise’s advanced features are hands-off lane following, braking, and speed control (in specific highway driving situations).

The other technology coming our way is vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications. Although it may sound crazy, this technology enables cars to communicate with one another. While they won’t be bilingual and working on a degree in Swahili, they will be able to communicate basic information, like direction of travel, location, and speed. The system can warn drivers of any issues and is a beneficial add-on to active safety features.

V2V technology stops the CTS from colliding with the SRX.

“Advancing technology so that people can more safely live their lives is a responsibility we embrace,” Barra explained.
