2013 was a banner year for Cadillac: GM’s luxury arm introduced us to a breathtaking concept that may very well spell out its future, launched the first wave of its future-thinking Extended Range Electric Vehicle, and won a number of overall awards for its superior lineup. Perhaps the most impressive accomplishment of 2013, however, is Cadillac’s ascension to the throne of fastest-growing full-line luxury brand.

Cadillac’s US sales totals for 2013 show a 22 percent increase over 2012’s numbers and the best total sales year for the luxury brand since 2007. Additionally, December’s sales revealed a 12 percent month to month sales jump and a 20 percent rise in retail sales.

“Cadillac saw huge product-driven momentum throughout 2013,” said Bill Peffer, Cadillac vice president of sales and service, in the brand’s news release. “Much of that growth came from buyers new to Cadillac, with Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz being three of the top traded-in brands.”

Among Cadillac’s leaders in December was the ATS sedan, which was designated 2013 North American Car of the Year at last year’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). The ATS enjoyed its best total sales month since launching earlier in 2013; even more impressive is the fact that 72 percent of those sales were conquest sales.

December also signaled the launch of the 2014 CTS Vsport, which improves upon the already-stout 2014 CTS by adding an all-new 420 horsepower Cadillac Twin-Turbo V6 engine and eight-speed transmission. The CTS, which itself won Motor Trend’s Car of the Year award and is a frontrunner for 2014 North American Car of the Year at the upcoming NAIAS, saw a 75 percent sales boost over the previous month in December.

What lies ahead for Cadillac in 2014? With speculation and certainty, it seems that the fastest-growing full-line luxury brand only stands to continue its growth into the New Year.
