Despite Chevy’s exciting releases this year, sedan fans are likely still mourning the death of some of the brand’s car models such as the Impala, Volt, and Cruze. Thankfully, Chevy plans to keep the Malibu around for a while. However, it might discontinue this model in 2024, according to Automotive News in its “Future Product Pipeline” feature.

Predicted demise

Per GM Authority, Chevy’s decision to terminate the Malibu soon stems from the current sales slump. It turns out that not many consumers are gravitating toward the 2019 model, despite its recent refresh.

Chevy might pay one last tribute to the Malibu by giving it a final refresh for 2022, according to Automotive News. Though, we have yet to learn exactly what features we can expect on this upcoming release.

Expected successor

Per Automotive News, the Malibu might have an indirect successor, to help assuage the blow of its passing for die-hard fans. If Chevy does replace the Malibu, it will likely be replaced by an electric model. This would fit into the larger context of GM’s goal to introduce 20 new EVs by 2023.
