Chevy is teasing a new look for its city car and promising a simultaneous, multi-national debut of the next-gen 2016 Spark. Alongside a shadowy teaser image released this morning, Chevy announced that the new Spark will debut on April 2nd at both the New York Auto Show and the Seoul Motor Show.
There isn’t much to go on with the teaser, but some indications of what’s been done to ramp up the new Spark are clear. The front fascia appears to be completely reworked with new headlamps and a Bowtie emblem that sits higher on the grille (which also appears to be redone); the hood boasts more definition with bolder lines, and the body appears to be a bit sleeker than its predecessor.

“The new Spark’s design has evolved and grown up with the segment,” said Michael Simcoe, GM International vice president of Design. “The youthful whimsy of the original Spark is still in its genes, but it is conveyed in more traditional proportions that reinforce the customer’s refined expectations.”
Chevy notes that the current-gen Spark has been increasingly popular in the US in 2015, selling 32% better through two months compared to last year. Spark has also become more popular with younger buyers, as more than one-quarter of all Spark drivers are younger than 35 years of age.
It stands to reason that any aesthetic changes for the 2016 Spark would fall to its EV, which may well eventually be replaced by the production version of Chevy’s 200-mile Bolt Concept.
