Cadillac recently debuted the 2020 CT5-V, the model that will replace the ATS-V and CTS-V. The brand is releasing two variants of the CT5-V: the production version and the next-level prototype version.

Per Cadillac Society, the two versions boast some notable contrasts. These unique qualities embody the automaker’s dual interest in both production-level capability and track-oriented performance.

The production CT5-V

Cadillac revealed the production model of the CT5-V at a private event at Detroit’s Eastern Market. Per Cadillac Society, it has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine under the hood paired with the brand’s new 10-speed automatic transmission. It churns out 355 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, for an energetic and responsive ride.

The interior borrows many aspects of the regular CT5 model’s cabin, with a few extra modifications for flair, such as a V-Mode steering wheel control and performance-focused instrument cluster. Dark exterior accents and V-Series mesh grilles, pair with customized quad exhaust tips and a rear diffuser for a stylish vibe.

The prototype CT5-V

The CT5-V prototype version, on the other hand, promises more racing-inspired details and track-ready capability. Despite the camouflage obstructing the front fascia of the CT5-V prototype that was recently spied on the Belle Isle track, we can gather a few details about the design.

Per Cadillac Society, the grille and primary air intake seem to have larger dimensions than those on the production model. The grille inserts appear to have a different pattern. Additionally, the air blade elements inside the vertical lighting signature seem lower.

The prototype also boasts larger, matte-black wheels with wider tires, as well as a decklid-mounted spoiler. Though this version’s standard engine is the same as the production model’s, Cadillac Society says it’s likely that Cadillac will add on the option of a 4.2-liter Blackwing Twin Turbo V8 engine. This powertrain would endow the prototype CT5-V with a stunning 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque.

Bigger brakes are another potential addition. The small air vents behind the front wheel seem to support this modification.
