General Motors has announced that it is consolidating its African and Middle East Communications, ostensibly laying all responsibilities for both regions onto the shoulders of one Denise van Huyssteen.

Van Huyssteen, the current General Motors Africa General Manager Communications and Public Relations, will see her responsibilities expand to encapsulate the Middle East as she takes up the title of General Manager of Communications for GM Africa and Middle East Operations.

Van Huyssteen will remain in South Africa for this role, but she will see her reach expand beyond the continent of Africa and into the Middle East. She will focus on corporate and internal communications, as well as product communications strategies for Chevrolet, Opel, and Isuzu in Africa and Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac in Africa. GM operates manufacturing facilities in South Africa, Kenya, and Egypt, and its regional marketing and sales office is located in Dubai.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to support both the Africa and Middle East operations, as we focus our efforts on helping the company to strengthen its brands and to sell more cars,” said Van Huyssteen.

Van Huyssteen also counts among her responsibilities her place as a member of the Executive Committee for GM South Africa, Chairperson of the GM International Women’s Council, and Trustee of the GM South Africa Foundation. She is also a Director on the Nelson Mandela Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board. She has a National Diploma in Public Relations from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, formerly known as the Port Elizabeth Technikon.
