Don Draper’s Cadillac Coupe de Ville Sold for $48,980

The Caddy used in AMC’s Mad Men

Don Draper made a lot of poor decisions over the seven-season run of the acclaimed AMC drama Mad Men, but his taste in cars was almost always on point. Close watchers probably noticed that Don was a true enthusiast who appreciated both speed and style, as reflected in everything from the souped-up Chevelle SS he piloted in the finale, to his daily driver, a silver 1965 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.

Recently, the actual ’65 Caddy used in the show was auctioned off for a whopping $48,980—pretty good for a fifty-year-old car valued at about thirteen grand. The Coupe de Ville itself actually fetched $39,500, but a 24% commission for auction host Screenbid raised the total considerably.

The car attracted 105 bids, making it one of the most highly sought after souvenirs auctioned off.

Other big-ticket items included Don’s home typewriter (sold for $9,000), the famous “Why I’m Quitting Tobacco” newspaper ad that he wrote with said typewriter ($8,100), and even his sunglasses ($5,100).

On the cheaper end of the spectrum, Don Draper’s bottle of after-shave lotion only sold for $175, perhaps because Screenbid noted that the bottle was “EMPTY.”

Empty? Boy, Don would drink anything…
