For many states in the U.S., winter means frigid temperatures and increased cloud cover. Escape winter’s chill when you roadtrip to one or more of these balmier destinations this season.

New Horizons: The style, strengths, and tech perks of the 2020 XT6

Biloxi, MS

Located in Mississippi, Biloxi boasts mild winter temperatures that make a variety of outdoor activities and indoor diversions more accessible. During winter, the average high temperature ranges from 60-63 degrees Fahrenheit in this area.

Go kayaking on the bayou or walk along the gulf coast. You can also test your luck at Roulette at one of the region’s many casinos, or recharge your creativity at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art. Make sure to grab a bite to eat and sample a spectrum of craft cocktails and regional brews at White Pillars on Beach Boulevard.

Sedona, AZ

Head to Arizona to take advantage of Sedona’s average winter temperatures that range from 57-61 degrees in winter. Backpack across Oak Creek Canyon or Bell Rock, then channel your inner spirituality when you witness the Chapel of the Holy Cross.

Book a room at a venue with a private balcony to take in the unpolluted sky full of stars at night. Depending on when you visit, you might also catch the Sedona Yoga Festival, RunSedona, and/or Sedona International Film Festival and Workshop events.

Las Cruces, NM

Catch a break from winter’s chill when you spend some time in las Cruces, New Mexico. From Dec. through Feb., the average high temperature ranges from 58-64 degrees Fahrenheit.

Go horseback riding at the Corralitos Ranch. Sample the wares of local artisans and fresh produce from the town’s Saturday market. Experience new alcohol beverages on the Las Cruces Ale Trail or try the spiciest foods and drinks on the Green Chile Trail. You can also check out Prehistoric Trackways National Monument to witness petrified wood samples, fossilized plants, and a variety of preserved animal footprints.

Orange Beach, AL

Another respite to dethaw from the season’s cold is Orange Beach, Alabama. This location has an average winter temperature that stays in the 60-to-65 degrees range.

Fishing and yachting are two popular pastimes, though you can also go kayaking or paddleboarding if you prefer to get as close to the water as possible. Adventure Island is the perfect destination for mini-golf and go-karting enthusiasts. Take a private boat tour for a chance to see and learn more about the dolphins, sea turtles, and pelicans that call this habitat home.

Saint Helena Island, SC

Saint Helena Island in South Carolina is yet another place to absorb 60- to 66-degree temperatures in the winter. Crowds are refreshingly absent from the island, making it a great place to unwind and soak up some solitude to recharge your battery.

Horseback ride along the beach when you take a trail ride with Camelot Farms Equestrian Center or one of the other stables nearby. Go golfing or hone your tennis skills at the Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort. If you’re a fan of cool architecture, check out historic sites like Chapel of Ease and Penn Center. Make sure to dine at the Shrimp Shack and Boondocks Restaurant, if you’re craving fresh fish during your stay.
