An F-150 Raptor V8? Why, yes, that’d be lovely, thanks

If you’re among those who thinks that the only thing missing from the Ford F-150 Raptor is even more power, the thought of an F-150 Raptor V8 is probably like music to your ears. If what sources claim turns out to be true, that music is fixing to get quite loud sooner rather than later.

According to Ford Authority, sources familiar with Ford’s product plans say that a forthcoming high-performance Raptor variant is in the works and will feature a burly V8. This leaves the question as to whether the engine in question will be the 700-plus-horsepower supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that’ll feature in the upcoming Shelby GT500 or the bonkers 7.3-liter V8 debuting in the 2020 Super Duty.

The answer to this question is unclear, but it seems like it’d be hard to go wrong in either case. The Shelby GT500’s V8 will, of course, be absolutely insane. The heavier cast-iron 7.3-liter V8 from the new Super Duty will be the largest V8 gas displacement engine in its class and is expected to be tops in terms of power, torque, and capability. Though output is not known for the later, it would likely be higher than the current F-150 Raptor’s high-output 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, which makes a stout 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.

As for when this beast would arrive and whether it would be offered with the current-gen F-150 Raptor or impending next generation, well, shrug. The wind certainly seems to be blowing in the direction of an F-150 Raptor V8, so it’s probably best to sit back, wait, and be super happy when this thing gets confirmed.
