First Challenger SRT Hellcat Crash Happens an Hour After Purchase

A man in Colorado recently purchased a Challenger SRT Hellcat, but, as it turns out, he was not quite up to the challenge.

In the first reported Challenger SRT Hellcat crash since the model hit dealerships (which, you know, wasn’t that long ago), Lance Utley of Winter Park, Colorado, ran his brand spankin’ new car into a tree—a freaking hour after he left the dealership lot, and just a few miles away.

Hurts, doesn’t it?

The first Challenger SRT Hellcat crash came just an hour after its owner drove it off the dealer lot.

The good news: neither he nor his passengers are hurt. The bad news: the car is completely totaled. Dude clearly was not cut out to handle a car pulsing with 707 horsepower potential. As the accident happened in clear conditions on a country road, it is likely that Lance was speeding when the accident occurred.

Police seem to think so, at least, as the Colorado State Patrol cited him with careless driving, as explained in their official statement:

“The 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat driver, 34-year-old Lance Utley of Winter Park, CO, was traveling northbound on Riverdale Rd. The driver lost control to the right, then overcorrected and lost control to the left, and struck a tree head on. There were two additional occupants in the vehicle. The driver was charged with careless driving. Drugs or alcohol were not involved. There was no mention of excessive speeding. All three occupants were unhurt.”

Unfortunately for Lance, he was not prepared for the sheer power of the Hellcat. Maybe a Dart would be a little more his speed.
