Ford has launched its 20th Conservation and Environmental Grants program, encouraging sustainability-focused programs from the Middle East and North Africa to focus on the theme of Beating Air Pollution. Groups are tasked with submitting project proposals through Sept. 1, and the winning groups will be offered a share of $50,000 in grants.

Projects will come from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Yemen. They will focus on the three main areas addressed by the Conservation and Environmental Grants program: Environmental Education, Protection of the Natural Environment, and Conservation Engineering.

There is also a $6,000 grant for the project that best addresses air pollution, and grants will also be given to the groups that win for Best in Research and Best in Community Engagement.

“Air pollution is a complex global issue. At Ford, we continue to work tirelessly to not just lower our footprint but also to develop innovations that make a positive contribution to society,” said Randy Krieger, president, Ford Direct Markets. “Through our continued efforts in electrification and many other initiatives, we aspire to achieve zero air emissions from our facilities and support CO2 reductions consistent with the Paris Climate Accord.”

2018 winners of the Conservation and Environmental Grants include the Halgurd-Sakran Park Project by Waterkeepers Iraq and Rehabilitation of Al Nakheel Island in El Mina by Andre Nahhas School in Lebanon. Over the past two decades, Ford Grants have supported more than 200 projects worldwide to the tune of over $1.8 million.
