Ford and Mahindra MoUs

Ford Motor Company and Mahindra Group singed two agreements in October that continue the companies’ strategic alliance with one another.

A definitive agreement was reached between Ford and Mahindra with regards to powertrain sharing, which will result in the development of a Bharat Stage VI-compliant, low-displacement gasoline engine that Mahindra will provide to Ford India beginning in 2020. A second definitive agreement addresses the co-development of a telematics control unit that will be used in Mahindra and Ford vehicles as part of the push for connected car solutions.

“Today’s announcement further builds on commitments made so far, leading to a fruition of exciting new opportunities,” said Mahindra Managing Director Pawan Goenka. “We are confident to meet customer expectations by working together on a number of joint development areas. Going forward we will continue to identify the synergies that exist between the two companies.”

Last September, Ford and Mahindra signed a Memorandum of Understanding that paired the former’s global cachet with the latter’s familiarity within the emerging market of India. The original agreement is slated to extend for three years and encompasses facets up to and including mobility, electrification, and product development.

In March of this year, the two companies announced plans to co-develop new SUVs and a small electric vehicle by signing an additional five MoUs.

“We are pleased with the progress our teams have made since we announced our strategic alliance with Mahindra Group a year ago,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president and president of Global Markets. “With our collaboration in powertrain and connected car solutions, we will deliver an affordable portfolio and enable our Indian consumers to get behind the wheel, feeling more confident and connected.”
