Ford Driving Skills for Life Returns to Puerto Rico
The Ford Driving Skills for Life program returned to Puerto Rico this week for the second time, aiming to help student drivers, teachers, and the parents of teen drivers learn vital skills to help keep them safer on the road.
Ford Fund estimates that 300 students between the ages of 16-19 will participate in this year’s Ford Driving Skills for Life programming. The two-day event includes hands-on experiences led by professional drivers including hazard recognition and vehicle handling, as well as the opportunity to don Ford’s Sleep Suit, which simulates the effects one experiences when driving drowsy.
Students, teachers, and parents will also be able to experience the Mobile Science Lab vehicle donated by Ford to the Centros Sor Isolina Ferré and the Proyecto Nacer On the Go Clinic. The lab hosts four workshop stations with unique activities.
Ford Research: The 2019 Ford F-150 is tougher, more capable, and more intelligent than ever
Ford DSFL is part of Ford Fund’s larger Operation Better World initiative, which has provided more than $3 million in recovery and community-building programs since 2012. Recently, Ford carried out a $1.2 million investment in recovery efforts following Hurricane Maria.
2019 marks 16 years of the Ford Driving Skills for Life program, and a 14-city tour of the United States is underway with plans to reach upwards of 6,000 individuals over the course of the year.
“Everything we do is designed to reduce crashes and fatalities by helping new drivers develop essential skills, gain experience and improve decision making,” said James Graham, global manager, Ford Driving Skills for Life. “We keep a close watch on new trends that impact driving behavior and capture the attention of teens and parents with training that is not only beneficial, but interesting and fun, as it promotes safe, smart driving.”
