Ford Motor Company posted a 13.1 percent year-over-year sales increase in its traditional 20 European markets in August, with growth facilitated by the automaker’s biggest August for commercial sales in a quarter-century and biggest August for passenger vehicle sales since 2011.

Ford delivered 58,100 passenger vehicles in August, up 15 percent from its sales in August 2017. Commercial vehicle sales rose 8.8 percent at 24,800 vehicles, and CV market share increased 0.3 percentage points to 13.9 percent. Ford’s growth was part of a wave of increases across the European auto industry during the month.

“The industry saw an unprecedented registration peak due to some manufacturers selling their excess Stage 6.1 stock,” said Ford of Europe Vice President of Marketing, Sales, and Service Roelant de Waard. “Ford sales increased by a very healthy 13 percent year-over-year without needing to force-register surplus stock. This should set us in a good position with free supply of the latest emissions levels and the launch of the much-acclaimed all-new Focus.”

Also helping to drive Ford’s big month were the Ford Transit, Fiesta, and EcoSport. Transit enjoyed record sales of 16,700 vehicles in August, making it integral to Ford’s continued standing as Europe’s top commercial brand. Fiesta maintained its status as Europe’s best-selling vehicle thanks to an eight-year record high of 15,100 examples registered, and EcoSport posted its best August on record with deliveries totaling 8,300 vehicles.

Ford’s top five markets for volume in August were Germany, Britain, Italy, France, and Spain. Its top five markets for market share were Britain, Ireland, Turkey, Hungary, and Romania.

Through August, Ford’s sales in the Euro 20 are up 0.9 percent at 927,000 vehicles delivered.
