It seems like basic economics: whenever the level of demand for a good or service increases, so too must the supply increase if that demand is expected to be met. With 2014 proving to be a big year for four key Ford models in Europe, it is only reasonable that production would rise to meet demand in 2015.
Ford is increasing output at its Saarlouis and Cologne, Germany assembly plants in order to increase production of the Focus, C-Max, Grand C-Max, and Fiesta.
In February, Ford is expected to boost Fiesta production by 300 units daily, bringing the number of Fiestas produced to 1,850 a day. Additionally, Ford will add six weekend shifts in January and February to help expand output. The Fiesta is a top-selling model in Europe, where Ford sells one small car roughly every two minutes.
Production at Saarlouis will increase by 240 units a day in order to accommodate for more Focus, C-Max, and Grand C-Max models rolling off the assembly line.
“We are ramping up production of some of our top-selling models to meet growing demand from Ford customers as well as the normal industry sales increase in the first half of the year,” said Jeff Wood, vice president, Manufacturing, Ford of Europe.
2015 stands to be a big year for the Ford brand in Europe. New product launches include all-new versions of the Ford Galaxy, S-MAX, C‑MAX, Grand C-MAX, C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid, Focus ST, and Focus ST diesel. Additionally, Ford will officially export the Mustang fastback and convertible to Europe for the first time, and will also release updated versions of the EcoSport, Ranger, Transit Connect, and Tourneo Connect.
