Feb. 7 marked Time to Talk Day in the United Kingdom, a day designated for having frank and honest conversations about mental health. To help drive the conversation forward, Ford continued to make good on the Time to Change pledge by adding 10 truck trailers to its transport fleet depicting an elephant with the slogan “Don’t Let Mental Health Be the Elephant in the Room” on the side and “If Your Mate’s Acting Differently: Act” on the rear.

With these “mobile billboards,” Ford looks to help destigmatize mental health issues as something that should be suppressed or seen as a sign of weakness. Per a Ford study, more than two-thirds of people surveyed say that a vehicle is a great place to have a productive conversation about mental health.

“One in four of us go through mental health issues at some point in our lives, so it really affects everyone, be it through personal experience or through people we know,” said Ford of Britain Managing Director Andy Barratt. “As the market-leading car and van brand in the U.K., Ford is an important part of society and we want to use that relationship to reach as many people as possible and encourage them to talk about mental health.”

This past October, Ford teamed with dirty van artist Ruddy Muddy to place similar artwork on a Ford Transit Custom that joined the Sky fleet for World Mental Health Day. Last year, a livery similar to that on the trailers appeared on a Ford Transit van.
