If there’s a modern phrase that’s applicable to the idea that Ford of Europe felt it necessary to demonstrate the new Ford Ranger’s towing capabilities by having it pull a caravan of 15 campers behind it, it would be: Weird flex but ok.

The video, entitled The New Ford Ranger. Tow Whatever the Hell You Want! on YouTube, is very much centered around the idea of towing whatever you want. It depicts a Ranger driving along a winding road with a trailer (housing a dog) in tow; an Audi comes screaming up behind it, flashing its lights and honking a manner that’s likely not all that different from how an obnoxious luxury-car driver would act in a similar situation. When the Audi gets waved to pass, we see that the Ranger is towing 15 campers. Why? Because, as the tagline says, the Ranger lets you “tow 3.5 tonnes of whatever the hell you want.”

The ad was shot on the Millbrook Proving Ground in the United Kingdom, and Ford says that the process required that the campers were reinforced with steel frames and equipped with front and rear tow bars. And before you ask, no, the Ranger can’t actually tow 15 campers because that’d be about six times its max towing capacity or more depending on how loaded up they are. Still, it makes for a fun visual.

“This was the slowest stunt I’ve ever done — but also one of the hardest,” said stunt driver Paul Swift, who was at the wheel for the commercial. “Trying to keep the caravans on the straight and narrow while the car drove past was a tough challenge, and one that really demonstrates the Ranger’s capabilities.”
