Ford Motor Company saw its sales rise 4.1 percent in August with 218,504 vehicles sold across the United States. Retail sales were up 1.1 percent at 165,794 vehicles delivered, fleet sales were up 15 percent at 52,710 vehicles delivered, and overall transaction prices rose $1,400 per unit.
Ford was led across the board by trucks and SUVs. Guided by the steady hand of the F-Series, which logged its best August result since 2005, Ford trucks were up 5.7 percent at 102,173 units delivered. SUVs exploded 20.1 percent, totaling 78,809 units delivered. This was more than enough to offset a 21.3 percent dip in car sales.
“F-Series completed 16 straight months of sales gains, while Ford Brand SUVs were up 21 percent in August,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales, and Service. “With greater production output and stronger stock positions, our two newest products had a terrific August. Sales of our all-new Expedition were up a strong 95 percent.”
Sales of the Ford F-Series totaled 81,839 trucks in August, up 6.3 percent year-over-year. More than half of all F-Series Super Duty sales were high-end variants like King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited, driving a record $58,700 average transaction price per truck.
But for the Police Interceptor Utility, every single Ford-badged SUV saw its sales increase in August. EcoSport sales remained strong at 4,769 units; Escape was up 3.2 percent at 24,395 units; Edge was up 6.7 percent at 11,563 units; Flex was up 6.8 percent at 2,023 units; Explorer was up 19.2 percent at 21,599 units; and Expedition was up 94.6 percent at 5,485 units.
Sales of the Mustang rose 35.3 percent in August at 7,487 vehicles delivered, helping it maintain its standing as the best-selling sports car in America.
After eight months, Ford Motor Company sales are down 1.2 percent at 1,690,221 vehicles delivered, and Ford brand sales are down 0.9 percent at 1,623,109 vehicles delivered.
