Ford SYNC 911 Assist will debut in the 2015 Ford Mustang

Debuting in the 2015 Mustang will be the new Ford SYNC® 911 Assist™, which will serve to improve response times from emergency crews in the event of an accident and greatly increase the quickness with which emergency dispatchers receive vital and potentially life-saving information.

“911 Assist uses a mobile phone connected to SYNC to call 911 directly when needed,” said David Hatton, global product leader and electrical engineer, Ford Connected Services. “With enhanced data, the system will provide even more detail about a crash to aid in the dispatch of the appropriate resources.”

Information that can be transmitted to dispatchers by Ford SYNC 911 Assist include the maximum change in velocity during impact, the type of crash, whether the seatbelts were fastened, whether airbags were deployed, and whether multiple impacts occurred.

Ford gathered input for 911 Assist from members of the National Emergency Number Association.

“We are pleased to continue working with Ford to prolong our vision of any device, anywhere, anytime to provide help needed in the event of an emergency,” said Ty Wooten, education and operations director, National Emergency Number Association. “This new data provided by 911 Assist will be useful in deciding the proper level of the initial response, and will give call takers an indication as to the severity of the incident.”

Ford SYNC 911 Assist builds upon the previously-released 911 Assist, which was the pioneer for technology that automatically contacts emergency services directly and without the use of third-party services. The new technology will likely be made available on subsequent 2015 Ford models.
