Ford is providing a pair of unique vehicles to aid its partner Team Sky in its quest for victory at this year’s Tour de France.

A liveried Ford Ranger will be used to scout out the course ahead and transport tools and team members. Sporting a custom bicycle rack and spotlighting Ford’s Share the Road campaign, the Ranger will be used by Team Sky’s medical staff and feed zone teams and will be used to carry tools, spares, and food and drink for the riders.

“The Tour de France throws up everything from icy peaks to muddy cobblestones and Ranger is a great go-anywhere addition to the fleet of support vehicles,” said Servais Knaven, sport director, Team Sky. ‘We are proud to get right behind ‘Share the Road’ — most of us are cyclists and drivers and fully support a campaign that highlights the benefits of looking out for each other.”

Ford is also providing Team Sky with a one-off Tourneo Custom van outfitted with a refrigerator and mini kitchen, reclining seats, power outlets, and gel blankets. These amenities will be used by riders as they recover after the completion of a stage and await transport to their hotels.

“Every second counts in cycling, and the smallest gains can mean the difference between winning and losing. The Tourneo Custom podium car helps riders begin their post-race recovery earlier and travel to the hotel in comfort, which puts them in prime position to hit the bike hard the next day and maintain their winning form,” Knaven added.

Ford is the exclusive vehicle supplier for Team Sky, who won the title of best overall team and whose Chris Froome was the overall winner of the 2017 Tour de France. Ford and Team Sky inked a deal to become partners in 2016 and re-upped that partnership in late 2017.
