Ford to End Taurus, Fiesta Production and Begin Focus Active Imports by Mid-2018

Earlier this week, Ford revealed that it would be initiating the Sedanageddon protocol, killing off every single sedan in its lineup and leaving only the Mustang and a Ford Active hatchback/crossover as its only non-truck/SUV/crossover passenger vehicles. Now, we have some idea when heads will begin to roll.

Michael Martinez of Automotive News on Thursday tweeted out a forecast, presumptively procured from sources close to Ford’s plans, for the termination point for Focus, Taurus, and Fiesta production.

Focus production is set to wrap next month, and the Focus Active is expected to arrive as an import from China by the middle of next year. Taurus production is expected to conclude in March 2019, and production of the Fiesta will end in May.

The Fusion is expected to remain in its refreshed form for an as-yet-undetermined duration, but its next-generation build program in North America was officially scrapped late in 2017. Responding to a tweet, Martinez noted that the next-generation Fusion was set to go into production for the 2021 model year, which might indicate when the Fusion will go off the market in North America.

Contrary to scenarios where anonymous sources leak details and the involved automaker swiftly issues a denial, Ford instead confirmed to Jalopnik that the dates Martinez has are accurate. It’s really happening, y’all. No more Ford sedans.
