Ford to Feature a Mile of Mustangs at Woodward Dream Cruise
Every year, on the third Saturday in August, classic car fans from around the world flock to historic Woodward Avenue in Detroit for the annual Woodward Dream Cruise. Just like last year, this year’s event is sponsored by Ford Motor Company. Unsurprisingly, Ford has several displays and events going on throughout the day of the Cruise.
If you’re a Mustang fan, you probably already know about Mustang Alley, which is one of the largest gatherings of pony cars in the world. This year, Ford estimates that around 1,000 Mustangs to line up on 9 Mile Road between Woodward Avenue and Bermuda Street. You can expect to see a wide range of model years, from the original 1965 model to the present day. Even if you don’t own a Mustang, it’s worth a trip to see so many lined up in Motor City.

You can also buy a T-shirt to commemorate the event. Proceeds from T-shirt sales benefit Operation Good Cheer, which provides Christmas gifts to kids in foster care to ensure they have something to open on Christmas morning.
Other Ford-sponsored events include the Ford family fun zone, a Ford truck display, and a full display of Ford’s performance lineup.
The Dream Cruise spans multiple cities, with each offering its own lineup of events. Even though the official Dream Cruise isn’t until Saturday, many cities have events on Thursday and Friday, including a drive-in at the Pontiac Transportation Museum on Thursday. There’s also a 5K race in Royal Oak on Saturday morning. You can see the full lineup of events at the Dream Cruise website.

Woodward Avenue is an important part of American automotive history. It was one of the first modern roads in the country, and in the past it was a popular location for street racing. The modern-day Dream Cruise was established in 1995 to raise money for a children’s soccer field, but an incredible 250,000 people showed up. The Cruise mostly features vehicles from the 1950s-1970s but other decades are represented in smaller numbers as well.
