General Motors earned a perfect 100% score in the Human Rights Campaign’s 2018 Corporate Equality Index, earning the automaker as being one of the organization’s Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality. 2018 marks the 10th time that General Motors has earned this honor.
“General Motors is extremely honored to be recognized with a top score once again by the HRC on its 2018 Corporate Equality Index,” said General Motors Global Chief Diversity Officer Ken Barrett. “Receiving this distinction for the 10th time out of 11 years validates GM’s longstanding commitment to implement policies and practices which enables an inclusive work environment for our employees.
“The technological innovation so critical to our business can only come from a fully engaged, empowered workforce with a broad spectrum of backgrounds and perspectives,” Barrett added. “We are proud to partner with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation in the important work of equality and inclusion initiatives meaningful to the LGBTQ community.”
General Motors earned perfect marks across the four key criteria: equal employment opportunity policy, employment benefits, organizational LGBTQ competency, and public commitment. Within these criteria are the 10 categories in which a company’s inclusiveness is score by the Human Rights Campaign: prohibition of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression; non-discrimination standards based on sexual orientation and gender for contractors and vendors; available spousal and partner medical benefits and the parity thereof; available transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage; company-wide Organizational Competency Programs; available Employee Resource Groups or Diversity Council; and positive engagement with the LGBTQ community outside of the company.
In the 2018 Corporate Equality Index, a record 609 businesses earned perfect scores for LGBTQ equality.
General Motors’ status as one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality also earned it a spot on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2018 Buyer’s Guide.
