There are plenty of truck drivers out there who would like the boost in power and efficiency that a diesel engine can provide. For GMC and Chevrolet customers, the wait for such a powertrain has been extended.
The 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six turbodiesel engine has been postponed to the 2020 model year.
Chevy Truck Powertrains: New Silverado 6.2-liter V8 engine wins award from WardsAuto
GM originally had plans set in place to add the 3.0-liter Duramax engine option to the Silverado and Sierra lineups later this year. However, the long certification process that the engine is undergoing has caused the engine’s addition to the Silverado and Sierra lineups to be pushed back a few months to 2020.
Unfortunately, many GM customers has already placed orders for a Sierra or Silverado equipped with this particular powertrain. Those customers will need to resubmit an order, this time for the 2020 model year if they still want a diesel-powered GM pickup.
There’s no need to worry about an uptick in price, however. GM plans to replace these orders for customers without adding any new fees to the asking price.
Increasing Efficiency: 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 gets more efficient
A lot is still unknown about this Duramax engine model. Its fuel rating is still not estimate at this time, nor are its towing and payload ratings.
What we do know is that the engine will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. It will produce 277 horsepower and an impressive 460 lb-ft of torque.
While the wait for this diesel engine option has been extended quite a bit, it’s likely that customers who want their pickup powered by a diesel engine will be willing to wait just a little longer for the release of this engine.
