General Motors does big business in China with its MPVs, and it now has a new tool at its disposal to help rack up new sales.
Last week, SAIC-GM-Wuling introduced the Wuling Hong Guang S1 MPV, a third-generation multi-purpose vehicle that will be offered in three distinct trims—1.5-liter MT Standard, 1.5-liter MT Comfort, and 1.5-liter MT Luxury. They are priced between RMB 60,800 and RMB 69,800, or approximately $9,475 USD to $10,880.
New for the Hong Guang S1 is an improved interior that is both more spacious and comfortable, as well as increased fuel efficiency and new standard safety features.
The new Hong Guang S1 is aesthetically upgraded with a new design language that utilizes stronger body lines and chrome aesthetics, giving it a stylish appearance that is contrary to a well-affordable price. On the inside, the MPV features a wraparound design that makes it feel more open and is polished off with piano lacquer and chrome accents on the center console.
In all, the Hong Guang S1 is 100 mm longer and 40 mm wider than its predecessor, capable of carrying up to 7 passengers while offering up to 8.8 cubic feet of cargo space. It’s also got a stance that is 40 mm lower, offering improved driving.
All models are powered by a 1.5-liter P-TEC DVVT engine that is both more powerful and more efficient than the prior model.
