GM Korea July Sales Total 41,406 Vehicles; Trax, Spark Stay Strong
General Motors Korea reported sales totaling 41,406 vehicles in July, a total derived from 10,801 domestic sales and 30,605 export sales. Domestic sales were down 24.8% year-over-year, but GM lauded its Trax and Spark vehicles for its growth.
“Chevrolet is capturing the hearts and minds of car buyers by offering models with refreshed designs and added convenience features developed based on customer demand as we value their voice the most,” said Dale Sullivan, GM Korea Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service, and Marketing. “The growth in demand for the Trax and Spark is generating sales momentum for the Chevrolet brand. We look forward to building on this trend in the second half of the year.”
GM Korea sold 1,282 Chevrolet Trax, up 89.9% year-over-year and enough to guide to-date domestic sales past the 10,000-vehicle threshold. Key in drumming up positive consumer response is the addition of a manual transmission option and the Trax Blade Edition. Trax exports have also been exceptional, totaling 155,260 units through July and making the small SUV the most exported vehicle in Korean history.
Sales of the Spark rose for a third straight month with sales totaling 4,225 vehicles and Chevrolet expects that trend to continue thanks to the launch of the new 2018 model. New for the 2018 Spark is an available Coral Pink exterior color, which GM notes “has received a tremendous response from female customers” because pink is for girls and girls like things that are pink and pink cars are perfect for perspicacious womenfolk who like things that are pink because it goes along with their pink lipstick and pink shoes and special pink pens and pink pink pink pink.
It’s a good thing that they sell the 2018 Spark in pink otherwise no woman would ever drive it. It is also good that they made the distinction that the Coral Pink Spark is intended for the ladies, because otherwise, how would we know who is supposed to like what color based on some arbitrary assumption?
Also, sales of the Chevrolet Camaro SS totaled 43 units in July.
After seven months, GM Korea sales total 320,405 vehicles—83,509 sold domestically and 236,896 exported.
