GMC Unleashes a Transparent Trailer View in HD Trucks

When you haul a camper for the family weekend getaway trip to the woods, seeing what is behind you is  a struggle because of the camper you’re hauling. GMC alleviates this challenge with the Transparent Trailer View in its ProGrade trailering technology package.

The Transparent Trailer View is exactly what it sounds like. It gives you a virtual line of sight through the trailer to see what is behind you — whether it is another car, a twister, or a mountain lion. Probably the first.

This view is one of 15 unique views the ProGrade trailering technology gives you to ensure everything is intact. It provides you with a bird’s-eye view of your vehicle and what is around it. No more paranoia, no more blind spots.

On the 2020 Sierra HD model, a tailgate-mounted camera and an available rear camera on the trailer create the Transparent Trailer View. The software within the system’s computer integrates their pictures into one screen so you can see through the trailer.

ProGrade trailering tech

ProGrade trailering debuted first in the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck. Now the technology is moving into the heavy-duty trucks, which are ideal candidates for hauling heavy equipment.

This package features an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller in which drivers can program certain brake level setting to specific loads. It also comes with a new lamp on the tailgate that shines toward the receive hitch area to lessen the difficulty of connecting your truck to the trailer at night, when you use Hitch Guidance with Hitch View on the Rear Vision Camera.

After you back up to the trailer hitch and park, the Auto Electric Parking Brake Assist activates.

Truck owners can access many camera views and the trailering data on the myGMC mobile app — accessible on both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto devices.
