Holden last month announced that it was shoring up its relationship with Collingwood FC by becoming a Support Partner of its Collingwood Magpies Netball Team. The Magpies will join the National Netball League in February 2017, and its squad will consist of current Australian Diamonds April Brandley, Ash Brazil, Sharni Layton, Kim Ravaillion, Madison Robinson, and Caitlin Thwaites.

Holden General Manager of Marketing, Brand, and Media Strategy Emma Pinwill said that the Magpies Netball Team represents another aspect of Holden and Collingwood’s dedication to diversity.

“Holden has very strong cultural values and is proud to offer its support to another exciting and diverse Collingwood team,” said Pinwill. “Since confirming our restructured partnership of CFC back in July, we have focused our resource to become a Major Partner of Collingwood’s Women’s AFL team, and this partnership of the Collingwood Magpies Netball Team is the next piece in the puzzle.”

Holden restructured its deal in July of this year after Collingwood FC President Eddie McGuire made an off-color comment about drowning a female journalist and, rather than offer an apology, said that his comments had become “a red herring” in the conversation about domestic violence. McGuire announced the name of the club at a press conference last month.

“The continued focus on diversity and equality between Holden and Collingwood also extends well beyond professional sports teams, with multiple grassroots and community programs, Holden Inspirational Women seminars and the state-of-the-art Holden Centre that offers safe training, bathroom and change facilities for women in the Melbourne Park precinct,” added Pinwill.
