Nobody seems able to say with any certainty when we’re actually going to start seeing the 2015 Honda Fit at dealerships. What we can tell owners of 2013 Honda Fit vehicles with manual transmissions is that your vehicle has been recalled. Luckyyy!
1,038 Fits with manual transmissions are being called back by Honda for an issue with the passenger side driveshaft. The driveshaft could break during driving as the result of improper heat treatment during manufacturing.
A broken driveshaft would cause the Fit to lose power and come to a stop while the vehicle is driving; if the vehicle is parked and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle could roll away unexpectedly. Both of these are quite serious issues that could result in injury or death.
The Fit recall is expected to begin tomorrow (June 15), though owners of these models will not likely receive notification from Honda until Monday. Owners of the affected vehicles will be able to take their Fits to dealerships for free inspection and repair.
Questions can be directed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through their Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or by visiting www.safercar.gov.
Honda’s customer service line can be reached at 1-800-999-1009. While you’re at it, ask them when the hell we’re getting the 2015 Fit.
And hey, you’ve got to give Honda some credit at least for not issuing this Fit recall and subsequently dropping a press release that pats themselves on the back for being “proactive” like certain other automakers you might have heard of.
