Honda Trademarks CDX Name for Acura Crossover
Autoblog is reporting that Honda filed a trademark application for the name “CDX” on February 11th, 2015. Likely, the nameplate will be used for a new small Acura crossover that would slot in below the larger RDX and MDX Sport Utility vehicles.
Honda could be looking to use the new HR-V compact crossover—the automaker’s first all-new nameplate in years—as the basis for the Acura CDX. Acura’s sales have been fueled primarily by the RDX and MDX, so the decision to add a smaller, urban, luxury SUV to the lineup seems like a no-brainer.
Should it eventually see the light of day, the Acura CDX could cut into the Buick Encore’s sales.
