Cars.com has selected the 2014 Chevrolet Impala and Silverado for its Best Car and Best Pickup of 2014 awards. Best Car and Best Pickup of 2014 honors, presented last week during the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), were bestowed upon Chevy’s sedan and full-size pickup for their innovation, overall quality, and superlative value.
The 2014 Chevy Impala was named Best New Full-Size Sedan of 2014, qualifying it for the Best Car award. It was pitted against the Acura MDX (Best New Luxury SUV), Hyundai Santa Fe (Best New Full-Size SUV), Kia Forte (Best New Compact Sedan), Mazda3 (Best New Compact Hatchback), and Mazda6 (Best New Midsize Sedan). Cars.com’s editors call the 2014 Impala “extremely impressive,” adding:
“The Impala earned our praise as the Best Car for 2014 because it is unquestionably better than it needs to be. Chevrolet could have taken an easier road and maintained the mediocrity of the last Impala with some updated styling, better electronics or added more efficient powertrains, but the automaker didn’t; it did all of those things and more. And in doing so, Chevy created a car that has become a genuinely desirable flagship.”
The 2014 Silverado was pitted against formidable foes including the Ford F-150, GMC Sierra 1500, Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, Ram 2500, and Toyota Tundra. The 2014 Pickup of the Year was the first dedicated award for the segment that Cars.com has presented, and the editors called the Silverado “an easy choice.”
“Chevy engineers basically had the opportunity to go over every inch of this next-generation pickup to improve every aspect of its capability and prowess. However, when you consider how hugely competitive this market has become, and how aggressive dealers have had to be to make sales, we know there were many points along this long re-engineering process where costs could have been cut, shortcuts taken or aggressive strategies pulled back. But Chevy engineers and management didn’t do that. Our criteria for this award are simple. We look at capability, power and value, and this new Silverado comes packed.”
“Winning these awards [Best Car and Best Pickup of 2014] is a huge honor for Chevrolet,” said Alan Batey, General Motors senior vice president of Global Chevrolet, in GM’s official statement. “The fact that the top vehicle in both these categories is a Chevrolet speaks volumes about the strength of our entire portfolio.”
