Speculation on the new Lancer Evolution
The new Lancer would be the most recent model since the Lancer Evolution X, so it’s reasonable to assume that the model would be called the Lancer Evolution XI. The rumors state that the new model would be a part of the CMF-C/D F4 platform, which Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi created.
In order to upgrade the new model, the Lancer Evolution would have many of the same drivetrain features as the Renault Megane RS. Both would contain the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, as well as a dual-clutch gearbox. In addition, the S-AWC four-wheel drive system would be a part of both cars.
The Lancer has been discontinued internationally since 2017. However, a saloon model of the Lancer is still selling within Chinese-speaking markets, keeping the model alive where it’s especially popular.
Osamu Masuko, chairman and former CEO of Mitsubishi, is supposedly behind the revival of the Lancer. He wants Mitsubishi to focus on developing powerfully performing cars again. To make his plan a reality, the return of the Lancer Evolution, a capable sports car, would help Mitsubishi gain a foothold in this market again.
