LEAF in Rotterdam

You can buy a brand-new LEAF in Rotterdam for less than $10,000 USD

Are you among those who would like to make the switch to an electric vehicle but just can’t quite afford the pricier up-front cost? After taking into account potential federal tax savings, a new Nissan LEAF will cost you around $21,510 in America. If that’s a bit too rich for your blood, then the answer is simple: go to the Netherlands, where you can buy a new Nissan LEAF for a mere $9,460 USD.

The city of Rotterdam is offering about $3,242 USD in scrappage subsidies for business fleet operators looking to replace their older vehicles with electric models. Combining this with national subsidies, the new LEAF can be had at less than $10,000 USD. Apply those same incentives to the Nissan e-NV200 Visia Flex, and you’re looking at a starting price of $6,400 USD.

Oh, and because Rotterdam really, really wants you to consider going green, they’ll give you a year of free parking in the city center and approximately $1,875 USD in subsidies toward installation of a home charger.

Charging the e-NV200

“By scrapping older vehicles and incentivizing buyers to replace them with zero-emission electric vehicles, Rotterdam is taking a huge step in improving air quality. Vehicles like Nissan e-NV200 and Nissan LEAF are ideal for city-based fleets as well as for private motorists who want to make a difference to the quality of life in their home town,” said Jordi Vila, Managing Director Nissan Netherlands.

Amsterdam is also getting in on the act, offering incentives of their own for the e-NV200 Visia Flex that make for a starting price around $7,310 USD.

“It is fantastic to see the municipalities of Rotterdam and Amsterdam supporting the take-up of electric vehicles for both consumers and businesses,” Vila added. “The environmental and financial benefits of this technology are clear even without incentives. This new scheme makes our already competitively priced Nissan LEAF and e-NV200 the best value new vehicles available – now really is the time to make the change while these incentives last.”

Rotterdam’s scrappage subsidy is only being offered for up to 5,000 applicants and for orders placed before December, so if you want to start planning your trip to the Netherlands for some cheap EV goodness, now would be the time.
