New York City is a pretty big deal, and international automakers are arriving at the New York International Auto Show to try and impress the legendary metropolis. Lexus has decided to make the new Lexus LC 500 and LC 500 Hybrid vehicles the stars of its display to try and steal the competition’s thunder while at the show.

The Lexus LC 500 coupe was one of the most talked about cars of this year’s North American International Auto Show in January, and its hybrid counterpart took a bow at the Geneva Motor Show. This new vehicle has been appointed Lexus’s newest flagship model, and the engineers have worked hard to deliver a luxury car worthy of that title.

A first for the luxury segment, the LC 500 has an all-new ten-speed transmission under its hood. It also is the first Lexus to include a newly-engineered rear-wheel drive platform, designed to have a center of gravity near the driver’s hip to make driving feel more natural.

On the other hand, the LC 500 Hybrid will be offered with a Multi Stage Hybrid System, the first of its kind. According to the manufacturer, the vehicle’s computer pays attention to throttle input to adjust engine speed and determine the correct mix between electric and gasoline power for the most efficient drive possible.  Lexus says that this system is optimized for performance vehicles and will shatter stereotypes about hybrid cars.

To sit alongside the Lexus LC 500 pair, Lexus has also announced that it will be showing off a 2016 Lexus RX in a bright color wrap designed by Jeremy Scott, who will be working with Lexus during New York Fashion Week in the fall.
