When an automaker brings a concept to a big auto show, it usually makes a pretty big splash. The fear, though, is that the production car based on it won’t live up to the hype. In 2012, the acclaimed Lexus LF-FC Concept was unveiled at North American International Auto Show. Four years later, the prototype of a production model, the Lexus LC 500 luxury coupe, has been unveiled, and it’s a pretty close adaptation of its predecessor.

On the outside, it is easy to see the LF-FC’s influence on the LC 500’s dramatic lines and liberal use of chrome. According to Lexus, the vehicle also maintains many of the same proportions as its predecessor, and it also sports the concept’s glass roof. The front fascia bears the standard Lexus grille, accented with chrome and surrounded by a triple LED headlamp for better visibility at night.

Under the hood, the Lexus LC 500 is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that generates 467 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque to give this car a sporty and powerful ride. The engineers have also added a dual intake inlet for the maximum amount of oxygen possible to get to the engine, but to also allow the car to make a fantastic sound to intimidate any other cars near it.

While the Lexus LC 500 is a powerhouse, it’s also built with safety in mind. It will be available with the Lexus Safety System +, which allows the car to help drivers maintain their lane, merge safely, and keep an adequate distance between them and the car ahead when using cruise control.  The interior of the car is also very comfortable, with available leather and sport seats.

It has not yet been announced when the Lexus LC 500 will arrive in dealerships, or what price it will debut at, but all signs point to the brand designating it as one of its latest flagship vehicles.
