Manchester United will wear Chevrolet-branded shirts when they play Real Madrid on August 2.

With Chevrolet on-board, the Manchester United game could set a new attendance record for a football game.

Football fans among us (and we mean fans of the sport that actually requires players to use their feet to move the ball around) are already gearing up for Manchester United’s first-ever match in the state of Michigan on August 2 against Real Madrid. The “Big House,” perhaps best known for hosting University of Michigan football games (in the sport where the ball is moved primarily by hand), will be rocking at a max capacity of 109,901 crazed soccer hooligans. To help celebrate the occasion and kick off a seven-year sponsorship, Manchester United will wear Chevrolet-branded shirts for the preseason game.

“Chevrolet looks forward to welcoming Manchester United to our home state of Michigan while giving Manchester United fans around the world a chance to watch their favorite football club,” said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet Marketing, in a press release. “Chevrolet’s partnership with Manchester United is more than a shirt sponsorship; it’s about sharing the power of play and passion for this sport with fans around the world.

“That’s what our ‘What Do You #PlayFor?’ campaign is all about: bringing fans closer to this great sport than ever before,” he said.

More incentive for all parties involved: a sold-out crowd will guarantee the attendance record for a football match in the United States, breaking the 30-year-old record set during the ’84 Olympics when 101,799 were on hand to see France defeat Brazil at the Rose Bowl.

We want to hear from you, soccer fans: will you be in attendance for the Man U/Real Madrid game this summer?
