By donating one of the Launch Edition 2016 MX-5s (one of only 1,000 made for the US) to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for its Hope in the Hamptons event on July 11th, Mazda has helped raise $50,000 for the charity. The exclusive MX-5 was auctioned online as a part of the annual event.

Ah, to have $50,000…

Even though there are very few Launch Edition MX-5 units in the US, Mazda North American Operations said that this particular MX-5 was already slated for charity work.

“We set aside one of the MX-5 Launch Editions for a special occasion such as this and when the opportunity arose to be part of the St. Jude Hope in the Hamptons event, we felt this was the perfect way to support a great charity partner,” said Russell Wager, vice president of marketing, MNAO. “St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does amazing things to help kids who are faced with horrible illness and we are honored to help raise money for their cause any chance we get.”

This donation was part of Mazda’s Drive for Good® program, which has donated over $7.6 million and pledged more than 120,000 service hours since its creation in 2013.

The car itself comes with a number of exclusive features that come standard to all Launch Edition MX-5s, such as a special Launch Edition plaque on the driver’s side doorjamb, a Bose® mini SoundLink® portable stereo (decked out with a Mazda badge), and a gift box from Mazda’s Heritage Collection clothing line.
