Back in 2016, we reported that Microsoft and the then-named Renault-Nissan Alliance were building a better cloud together. This month, the completed connected infrastructure system had its product launch under the name Alliance Intelligent Cloud.

The Future Is Coming: Take a look at the new 2020 Nissan Rogue

Future vehicles equipped with the Alliance Intelligent Cloud will have fast and convenient access to the internet. This lets them send diagnostic information to you and the automaker, access infotainment options, and receive software and firmware updates regularly.

Not only will the Alliance Intelligent Cloud roll out soon on production vehicles, but it appears that Nissan is also updating select current models. The new system will consolidate the Alliance’s several legacy connectivity solutions under one umbrella to make sure the vehicles can operate at their full capacity.

Kal Mos, global vice president of Alliance connected vehicles at Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, said, “Today we are deploying a vehicle connectivity platform that will transform the digital experience for customers of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi. Through our collaboration with Microsoft, we are introducing the most powerful and far-reaching connected vehicle platform. Leveraging the size and scale of the Alliance, we have built an intelligent cloud platform that sets the pace for our industry.”

This new platform for the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance aims to serve all of the nearly 200 markets where the companies sell vehicles. The partnership between the Alliance and Microsoft was the most ambitious worldwide program in the auto industry yet, according to the company. If you’re interested in giving it a try, the Alliance Intelligence Cloud will be available on the all-new Nissan LEAF and Renault Clio in Japan and Europe this year.
