Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III to Run 2014 Pikes Peak

MiEV Evolution IIIFor a third year in a row, Mitsubishi will be competing in the Electric Modified Division of the Pikes Peak. This year, they will be racing to the clouds in a pair of MiEV Evolution III racecars that promise to continue to take the second-oldest race in the United States in a brand new direction.

The MiEV Evolution III models will climb the world famous Colorado Springs course, its 12-plus miles, and its 156 corners on June 29th during the 92nd running of the race.

“Pikes Peak is an excellent laboratory for testing our advanced MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) technology,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA), “it not only features high elevations but also a range of weather conditions to challenge the performance and reliability of our technology.”

Hiroshi Masuoka and Greg Tracy return in 2014, looking to guide the Mitsubishi Motors EV team to victory in the Electric Modified Division after taking second and third in 2013, respectively. Masuoka is a former two-time Dakar Rally champ, and Tracy is a six-time motorcycle champion at Pikes Peak.

Changes to the MiEV Evolution III from last year’s model include: a 67-horsepower increase (from 536 hp to 603 hp), redesigned tube-frame chassis with lightweight materials, redesigned front bodywork/spoiler that improves downforce, and redesigned Super All-Wheel Control system.
