The Mitsubishi Shogun Sport, known as the Pajero Sport in Asian markets, will make its way back into UK dealer showrooms later this year

Mitsubishi has made it well-known that it plans on focusing its lineup on crossovers and SUVs. That is why it comes as no surprise that the Japanese carmaker is re-introducing another SUV to its United Kingdom lineup—the Mitsubishi Shogun Sport.

The new Shogun Sport, which was introduced last year in Asian markets as the Pajero Sport, will be arriving in the United Kingdom by November. This SUV, which was previously sold in the UK but was discontinued in 2006, will come in priced between the Mitsubishi Outlander and the Mitsubishi Shogun (a full-size SUV we don’t get here in the US). That makes its estimated price tag around £26,000, which is around $38,000.

According to UK managing director Lance Bradley, this new SUV will help increase Mitsubishi’s sales by 10-15%.

“It will increase our sales quite a lot if we get it,” said Bradley. “It looks fantastic and it’s really torquey.”

If you think the Shogun Sport looks relatively familiar, that is because it’s based on the L200 pickup truck’s platform. This SUV offers consumers a 2.4-liter diesel engine that churns out 179 bhp (the equivalent of 181 horsepower) and 317 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission and Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD II four-wheel drive system, which is capable of operating as either a two-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive system.

The fifth-generation regular Shogun model is also expected to come to market by 2019 and is expected to be available as a plug-in hybrid.
