Nationwide Takata Airbag Recall On Its Way

Although the Japanese company Takata has insisted that its faulty, exploding airbags are only really explodey in humid climates, such as Florida, there has been mounting pressure for Takata to recall and fix all of the 14 million affected vehicles; not just the 4.1 million covered by the US regional recall. Now the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has made the mandate official by issuing a nationwide Takata airbag recall.

According to Reuters, if Takata doesn’t comply by today, December 2nd, the government can force a recall and fine the manufacturing company up to $7,000 per vehicle.

Of all the companies affected by the Takata airbag recall, Honda – Takata’s largest customer – has been the hardest hit (although no one seems to have told Honda’s customers). BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota have also been affected.
