New Cadillac 3.6-Liter V6 Also Announced for 2016 CT6

Cadillac not only announced that it would be offering the all-new 3.0-liter Twin Turbo V6 with the 2016 CT6, promising one of the most power-dense V6 engines ever built, but it also revealed that the new flagship sedan will be available with an all-new 3.6-liter V6.

The fourth-gen version of the 3.6-liter V6 is built basically from scratch, incorporating new and advanced technologies such as Active Fuel Management and stop/start technology that will make the new powertrain an estimated 9% more efficient than the outgoing version.

The 3.6-liter V6 is SAE-certified at 335 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque.

“This new 3.6-liter V6 raises the bar for all naturally aspirated V6 engines in the industry and perfectly augments the CT6’s new standard for sophistication,” said Ameer Haider, assistant chief engineer for V6 engines. “It builds on the established strengths of previous Cadillac engines, pushing the technologies to new heights and introducing new ones that take performance, refinement and efficiency to benchmark levels.”

The 3.6-liter V6 shares a number of new features with the 3.0-liter Twin Turbo, including a stiffer aluminum block, four-cam phasing system, higher-flow cylinder heads, and an all-new lubrication system with variable-displacement, two-stage oil pump. These features not only serve to make the new Cadillac V6 engines more efficient and more powerful, but also quieter than competitor engines.

The 3.6-liter V6 will be mated to the same Hydra-Matic 8L45 paddle-shift eight-speed automatic that was introduced in the 2015 Corvette Stingray.

“The new 3.6-liter is designed to deliver peak performance, efficiency and refinement with maximum durability—and minimal maintenance,” said Haider. “Those attributes put it at the forefront of naturally aspirated V6 engine offered in any luxury car around the world.”
