GM is now offering a unique extended warranty as an option for its new vehicles
General Motors is vouching for the reliability of its new vehicles with a unique optional extended warranty program.
Now, when customers buy new GM vehicles, they can also purchase a limited warranty that extends the standard warranty. For Chevrolet and GMC vehicles, the three-year/36,000-mile factory warranty can be extended to five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. Buick and Cadillac vehicles come with a four-year/50,000-mile warranty that can be extended to six years/70,000 miles.
“One of the best things about buying a new vehicle is the peace of mind that comes with the warranty,” said Ken Mac, director of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac Protection. “If you drive a Chevrolet, you know that any GM-brand dealer will take care of warranty repairs without paperwork, deductibles, or exclusions. The same goes for Cadillac, GMC, and Buick owners. Now, we’re offering people the opportunity to increase the duration of their bumper-to-bumper warranty far out into the future.”

The new extended warranty will be honored by all GM dealers
The new extended GM warranty differs from service contracts or extended dealership warranties, which many car buyers purchase for longer-term coverage. It’s accepted by all GM dealers across the U.S. and doesn’t require a claims form or deductible. The cost can be folded into the customer’s lease or loan. If the vehicle is sold before the warranty is up, coverage automatically transfers to the new owner and could potentially improve resale value.
“People who lease typically keep the vehicle for 24-36 months, so most of them are always covered by the base bumper-to-bumper limited warranty,” said Mac. “But if you buy, analysts say you’ll likely keep your new vehicle for over six years. This true extended warranty can keep the average customers covered for most if not all of the time they own their vehicle.”
GM is suggesting that dealers charge $1,000-$2,000 for the extended warranty, depending on the type of vehicle being covered and how much it costs.
