New for the 2016 Subaru lineup is SUBARU STARLINK, an in-vehicle platform that combines hands-free connectivity, safety, and entertainment systems, as well as the available touchscreen audio and navigation systems that are available on select models from the 2016 lineup. The system is long overdue for Subaru but still a welcome addition.
Drivers who purchase a new 2016 model will receive the service free for a year (if opting for the simpler of two packages). The base package is called the STARLINK Safety Plus package, and it includes Automatic Collision Notification, Diagnostic Alerts, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Maintenance Notifications, Monthly Vehicle Health Report, and SOS Emergency Assistance. After the first year, drivers can pay $99 for a continued, two-year subscription.
Alternatively, there is a STARLINK Safety Plus and Security Plus package available. This package carries the same features as the base package but adds on Remote Horn and Lights, Remote Lock/Unlock, Remote Vehicle Locator, Stolen Vehicle Recover Service, and Vehicle Security Alarm Notification. To get this in the first year, drivers have to upgrade from just Safety Plus for $49. After the first year, a two-year subscription would cost $149, compared to the $99 for the Safety Plus only.
SUBARU STARLINK has a number of cool features, such as the SOS button if you’re ever caught in a hairy situation. If airbags are deployed, a STARLINK advisor is automatically notified. Your vehicle will also get regular checkups with automatic diagnostics; 14 critical systems in total are tested regularly.
The new SUBARU STARLINK system is standard across the entire lineup, which includes the Legacy and Outback, as well as the all-new Forester.
