4 New Year’s Events to Drive to in North Carolina
The Tar Heel State has some terrific ways to party in the new year. Here are just four holiday events worth attending as we welcome the arrival of 2020.

Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration
The Carolina Beach Boardwalk provides New Year’s fun for all ages at the Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration. Dance the night away to DJ music, while partaking in food and drink from vendors. The event starts at 9 p.m. and continues through 12 a.m. when the event culminates in a fireworks display and an oversized beach ball drop.
New Year’s Eve Extravaganza
Drive to Blowing Rock to attend Appalachian Ski Mountain’s annual New Year’s Eve Extravaganza. This event starts at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and continues through 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1. Participate in torchlight skiing, hone your ice skating skills, and witness fireworks with your loved ones. Onsite food will help you stay energized and warm as you wait for the clock to strike midnight.
New Year’s Eve: Vienna with a Twist
Put on the ritz in Raleigh when you dress up and take your partner to the North Carolina Symphony’s “New Year’s Eve: Vienna with a Twist” at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31. Per the event’s website, Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” will be the highlight of the performance. However, the symphony will also play some big-band classics and Viennese waltzes to round out the program.
Newport Pig Drop
Feast on yummy barbecue while witnessing a lighted pig drop from the sky when you attend Newport’s annual New Year’s Eve event. last year’s event started at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 at Newport Community Park. At the time of writing, details for this year’s event have yet to be released. However, the Town of Newport will likely post more details on their event page as we get closer to the end of December.
