Nissan LEAF Hits One Billion Kilometers of Zero-Emission Driving

one billion kilometers

Nissan LEAF vehicles registered with CarWings passed one billion kilometers

Counting only those LEAFs that are registered with the CarWings telematic system, Nissan’s electric vehicle has registered one billion kilometers of emissions-free driving since its release in 2010. All told, that equals out to more than 180 million kilograms of CO2 emissions saved.

Almost more impressive: the fact that a mere 54% LEAFs sold globally are registered with CarWings, meaning the distance and emissions figures are considerably greater than 1 billion and 180 million.

“Our aim was to see Nissan LEAF owners registered with our innovative CarWings system amass one billion kilometers by January 2015, and we are absolutely delighted to announce that we have achieved this landmark milestone earlier than anticipated,” said Paul Willcox, Chairman for Nissan in Europe.

“We would like to thank every single Nissan LEAF owner for helping us in reaching this world-first,” Willcox added. “The Nissan LEAF was the first mass-market family electric vehicle ever built, and the owner satisfaction scores are the best in the Nissan range. This huge distance landmark shows that many of our customers are rapidly clocking up kilometers as they enjoy the benefits of quiet, emission free driving.”

Not content to stop at 1 billion emissions-free kilometers, Nissan is keeping its counter running—currently creeping up on 1,001,000,000 km—toward the next major milestone.
