Trick-or-Treating is a delightfully spooky seasonal event, but even dark suburban roads are never completely safe. That’s why certain Nissan dealerships in Canada are distributing easily-applicable reflective stickers to keep your kids safe on the road.

Participating Nissan dealerships across Canada are giving away Nissan Glow Guards free of charge, which will make both you and your child safer than ever during the Halloween festivities. The stickers operate similarly to the reflective materials on some running or biking clothes, reflecting the light from a vehicle’s headlamps to make wearers significantly more visible in the dark.

Halloween is spooky: Drive something reliable

The night of Halloween, especially during trick-or-treating, sees a dramatic increase in pedestrian foot traffic on the streets, which puts people at higher risk for an accident. A Canadian-led study conducted by JAMA Pediatrics showed that the chance of pedestrian deaths — especially children — increases by 43 percent on Halloween when compared to other nights around that time.

In a recent press release, Steve Rhind, director of marketing Nissan Canada, said, “When it comes to road safety, Nissan believes in a mindful and holistic approach that ensures road safety for all. It’s why we’re putting our focus on proactive safety measures that will help trick-or-treaters and drivers alike. By making Nissan Glow Guards available at dealership locations across the country, we encourage families to enjoy a safer Halloween this year.”

Make the road safer for everyone: Keep your brakes in good shape

Nissan also suggested that families should make sure to take safety precautions in addition to using Glow Guards, such as carrying a flashlight, using sidewalks whenever possible, and discussing road safety with children before leaving for the night.

If you’re interested in adding Glow Guards to your child’s costume, you can pick some up from a participating Nissan dealership until October 31st, before trick-or-treating begins.
